COLD - The Choice for Performance & Environment
Size:
  • We achieve both an eco-friendly and high-performance product by sourcing our chalk from seawater. Sea water processed chalk is of higher purity than mined chalk and it's much better for the environment.

  • Seawater processed means our magnesium carbonate (chalk) is extracted out of seawater rather than mined out of the ground. This is a much more sustainable and renewable process and gives you a much better chalk. Read more about it here!

  • Due to the processes involved in extracting magnesium carbonate out of seawater, a much purer product is produced than when it is mined. When mined, it is mined from magnesium-containing rock so there is large quantities of contaminants present, especially calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is detrimental to friction due to how it holds water, most cheap mined chalks have high quantities of this (it also discolours the chalk a bit creamy brown). For more information, check this post out!

  • Just chuck it in your recycling, our paper bags are fully home paper recyclable.

  • A lot of packaging that is labelled as compostable is only industrially compostable and wouldn’t decompose in your home compost.

  • Most packaging that is labelled as "Compostable" is generally only industrially compostable which means you need to drop of your rubbish at specific bins and then they need to be sent off to composting sites. If you just chuck it in your compostable bin it might just end up at landfill or incineration!

  • The reason we only do set sizes of bags of loose and bottles of liquid is because this way you get our product at its cheapest we can offer it at. There would also be more waste created per less usable product and we'd have to ship out smaller quantities which again increases carbon due to shipping.

  • Our chalk comes in the super fine form that it was when it was extracted out of seawater. The compress it into a block and break down in various chunk sizes are additional processes which would contribute to our carbon footprint and have to be reflected in the cost of the chalk too! If you’re used to another brand with a unicorn on the packaging, the fineness is comparable to that.

  • We recommend placing a flannel or a small cloth of some kind in your chalk bag/bucket to help hold some chalk and to allow for you to rub your hands on. This helps with chalk adhesion to the skin.
